His story
Jeffrey Epstein became a financier and convicted sex offender.
He began his professional life by teaching at the Dalton School in Manhattan, but he didn’t have a college degree and got dismissed.
He then entered the banking and finance sector, working at Bear Stearns in various roles. He eventually started his own firm, developed an elite social circle and procured many women and children who were sexually abused by him and some of his associates.
In 2005, police in Palm Beach, Florida, began investigating him after a parent complained he had sexually abused her 14-year-old daughter; and in 2008 he pleaded guilty and was convicted by a Florida state court (house 9) of procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute.
He served 13 months in a private wing of a county prison (house 12-Jupiter), which he was allowed to leave six days a week to work in his office.
Epstein was again arrested on July 6, 2019 on federal charges for the sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York; and on August 10, 2019 he was found dead in his jail cell. His death was ruled a suicide (house 12) by New York City’s chief medical examiner.
On August 29, 2019 a judge dismissed all criminal charges against him.
Federal officials had identified 36 girls, some as young as 14 years old, whom Epstein allegedly sexually abused.
On December 19, 2025 the Epstein files were released by the US Department of Justice as mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Many of the files were heavily redacted and concerns arose about the completeness and transparency of their release.
His long-term associates include Donald Trump, Leslie Wexner, Bill Clinton, Alan Dershowitz and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Others were former MIT professor Marvin Minsky, Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Bill Gates, LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, Barclays CEO Jes Staley, celebrity hairstylist Frédéric Fekkai and magician David Copperfield.
