Know more about you

It’s an indisputable fact, even if you’re a twin, that you’re unique. There’s no other person on the planet quite like you and a truckload of biological and astrological evidence proves it.

You’re one of a kind and your human nature – as a blend of ambition, aggression, love, joy, goodwill, optimism, fear, insecurity, originality and idealism – is distinct.

You have a special type of intelligence and ability, a personal hierarchy of needs and your own thoughts and viewpoints. Every physical and psychological feature about you is unique yet you’re likely to wonder: Who am I?

Hermetic astrology teaches that you are the sometimes alert and observant thinker who declares ‘I am’.

The ‘I’ you refer to is yourself and the ‘self’ you refer to is your mind, soul or character: your entire thought and feeling world.

So, you’re the consciousness who thinks the thoughts and feels the feelings and your consciousness is a perception of relations that can be subjective or objective.  And to be conscious of these relations you must be able to compare them.

You’re the observer and decision-maker – the witness to your life experience – and you have self-consciousness.

You’re aware of your thoughts, feelings, desires, sentiments, aspirations, motives, moods, likes and dislikes and have the ability to analyze your own mental processes and communicate the results of your self-scrutiny to others using language. You can inform others of what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling and this confirms you have self-consciousness.

And you have objective consciousness: an awareness of what’s going on around you. It allows you to direct your attention to observing the reports of your physical senses and to cerebral processes.

Self-consciousness has you relying on sensory inputs to guide your actions. They provide you with information and you have the power to reason about phenomena that's occurring in your everchanging local environment.

Self-consciousness has you observing

You can’t help observing that you have a mind: a world of thoughts, feelings and impulses. They stream in, make their presence felt, direct your conduct and leave.

And you can’t help observing that you have a body: an amazing biological creation that has arms and legs and eyes and ears. It’s essential to your existence but you don’t know anything about its electrochemical activity or the processes of digestion and assimilation.

Your observing confirms that you have a mind and body and these personal realities perform functions that you know nothing about so you may be wondering: What am I doing here?

Well, you’re here because your soul developed a desire to have self-consciousness and a better understanding of its environmental circumstances.

You’re specifically here to handle new situations and solve problems that your soul has never before encountered. You’re gathering and assessing data and making informed decisions.

You can recall perceptions saved in memory and combine them into a new order.

Your capacity to reason is an experience arising from the comparison of relations held in memory. Rather than acting on feeling impulse or blind belief you’re employing reason when dealing with a new situation.

Your thoughts emerge from your mind – not your brain – and your thought and feeling world is the only thing on your mind. As movements in astral substance, they radiate from your soul and you can give them directive force.

The crowning glory of your intellect is directed thinking. It’s the ability to direct and focus your attention. Motivated by the desire to separate facts from beliefs directed thinking makes critical analysis possible.

But the thoughts you think have very little power. It’s your not-conscious thoughts and feelings that possess psychokinetic power. Your soul can create the environmental conditions that allow it to satisfy what it desires. The psychokinetic power of its thoughts does the job.

The humdrum of your daily life is a series of activities that don’t require your concentrated effort. Your daily/weekly life is a structured routine: a habit that your soul or not-conscious mind manages. Your soul handles all those situations that you have encountered many times and your daily life is just your soul’s intelligence doing its thing.

So, you’re not always needed and regularly take time-off and go missing. It’s only when a new situation poses a problem that can’t be solved by knowledge acquired from previous experience that you report for duty.

Rather than acting on uncontrolled feeling and habit you can use reasoned thought to grasp all the implications of a new situation and work out the best way to handle it. Exercising this and other functions through your brain is termed objective consciousness. It’s a specialized intelligence that examines, compares, relates and finally decides.

So, you might consider yourself a mental app: a self-contained state of awareness that’s designed to perform a specific function directly for its user, your soul.

Your brain wasn’t designed to be aware of your soul’s various states of consciousness, or to direct all the activities of your body. It facilitates the emergence of objective consciousness which provides your soul with a clearer apprehension of its external environment which then permits more effective action when new conditions demand change.

But lest you think you have more than one mind – you don’t.  Your mind or soul is a single operating system with a conscious and not-conscious part and it’s attached to your physical body by the psychokinetic power of its thoughts.

It provides you with a unique first-person perspective view of the world, but the major portion of your thoughts and feelings remain below the surface of objective awareness; so, your not-conscious thought and feeling world is hidden from you.

Objective consciousness is a perception of relations that you identify as your conscious mind; and you, the small, keen, bright, clever reasoning peak of your soul, emerge above the surface of objective consciousness and are designated the objective mind.

You’re a big mystery

Your emergence is the big mystery that has everyone baffled. In fact, you don’t even have a good theory.

You – the self-conscious individual – defy explanation. Objective consciousness makes you aware of your thought and feeling world – your desires, cravings and impulses – and with this knowledge comes responsibility. You’re responsible for your thoughts, feelings and actions and can actively participate in your character development.

The acquisition of objective consciousness and your emergence as a thinking individual represents a significant development in your soul’s evolutionary journey. It’s a glorious achievement.

Your objective consciousness is just your mentality (Moon) and cerebral processes (Mercury) doing their thing.

The neuroscientists are probing around in your brain trying to find you, but you’re not there. Using new age technology, they can see your brain fire up as not-conscious thoughts and feelings stream in to appear on the screen of consciousness, but they can’t find you.

And that’s because, as your soul’s objective awareness, you exist on an astral plane. Your soul is attached to your physical body by the psychokinetic power of its thoughts; and self-consciousness and objective consciousness – abilities your soul has acquired through experience – express through your brain.

Your brain

It’s a device that facilitates objective awareness and the transfer of information via electromagnetic energy.

Objective consciousness – which is only a small portion of your soul’s consciousness – allows your soul to be fully aware of changes occurring in its environment. So, you provide your soul with a keener tool for dealing with problems as they arise.

Evolution is just soul-intelligence doing its thing and the desire to have a type of consciousness that permits objective awareness required a high degree of soul-intelligence. And it required a physical device to facilitate the specialized consciousness that could experience and interpret the reports of the physical senses.

This device – your brain – is an innovation of soul intelligence and the consciousness it facilitates is called objective consciousness. You’re inclined to call it your mind.

Nerves and brain facilitate objective consciousness – your soul utilizes electric energies to transmit vibratory rates to your brain cells – and animals have both, but they don’t have self-consciousness or the ability to reason.

Self-consciousness makes you human but your capacity to reason has been greatly exaggerated.

So, you’re the most recent addition to your soul’s developing consciousness which, as a perception of relations, is the basis of your actions.

Your emergence facilitates the learning of language and reasoning skills.

With self-awareness you’re aware of your feelings and you move towards the life-matters and people that cause you to feel pleasure and away from those that cause you to feel pain.

You might pride yourself on your reasoning skills but it’s your vivid feelings that make you feel alive and prompt action.

That’s because your soul has been programmed to act on images and feelings not words and reasoned judgments.

Feelings have been guiding your actions ever since… Some are regular and very familiar while others are transient and infrequent. Some are vivid; others are faint and obscure. Some are honorable, proper and noble and some are distasteful, improper, degraded and sordid.

You can feel confidence, pride, shame, anger, fear, hope, joy, sympathy, love, affection, lust, embarrassment or confusion.  And in each instance the feeling sensation is an information transfer from your soul instructing you to fight, flee, love, hate, give affection, have sex, create, destroy, hide, feel safe, have faith, worship, give thanks, take revenge or whatever.

So, the close encounter you have with your thought and feeling world can have unpleasant moments.

Your thoughts have vibratory rates

Levels within the astral – thought and feeling – realm are identified by their vibratory rates. And the basic vibratory rate of your thoughts, desires and aspirations is determined by your general plane of consciousness.

It’s the vibrational quality of a thought that identifies the astral plane from which it emanates. And the quality of your thoughts indicates the astral level to which you belong.

The various thought images, springing from your desires and motives, tend to build an astral thought environment, and they attract you to conditions on the astral plane of a similar character. Your basic vibratory rate, together with your strong thought images, is an expression of your true self – The Dweller on the Threshold – who you must meet.

The human mind has a dark side that’s a remnant of its evolutionary past and those with a low vibratory rate, whose thoughts are sordid, vile and destructive, may, when their electrical energies are tuned to the hypersensitive frequency, have vivid contact the Lower-Pluto section of the astral realm.

Here they meet The Dweller on the Threshold – their real self – in the usual way, but the self they meet is composed of lower astral entities and loathsome creatures.

A close encounter with the Lower-Pluto astral realm is a frightful experience and those who experience horrible mental images often seek escape through alcohol and drugs which, rather than solve the problem, only makes it worse.

Your thoughts and feelings direct your behavior and amidst the ecstatic sensations, joyful feelings and noble thoughts are ignoble, untamed thoughts and feelings.

Your strongest, most incessant, thoughts and feelings take you to where they want to go and misguided, destructive impulses can have unfortunate destinations.

You rarely question the integrity of your thoughts and feelings. They easily sway you to take action that satisfies their intent. So, you – the smart and prudent thinker – are more like a puppet rather than a chief executive officer. Your not-conscious thoughts, feelings and impulses are pulling the strings and you just obey their orders.

Feelings, either directly or symbolically, represent thoughts and your soul has had a lot of practice at directing its behavior based on the objective awareness of its feelings.

So previous experience, more often than not, inclines you to act on your conditioned feeling responses, but you do have the capacity to think and reason and transform your behavior.

You can employ your reasoning powers to question, analyze and discriminate, but you rarely do. It’s very hard work so you’re more inclined to speculate, surmise, hazard a guess and fantasize and this weakens your capacity to make reasoned judgments.

So, you’re the clever individual who thinks but your capacity to direct and steer your life by reasoned thought has been greatly exaggerated.
