The Hermetic system of astrology

Hermes Trismegistus, the legendary founder of Hermeticism and teacher of astrology, alchemy and magic, discovered glorious knowledge.

This knowledge included the key to great mysteries and in the first half of the 20th-century this key was united with reason and diligent inquiry to develop the science of astrology.

Astrologers on the west coast of America, operating under the banner The Brotherhood of Light, scientifically tested the old astrological beliefs, deleted the irrelevances and went in search of new astrological facts.

The end result is now available as the Hermetic system of astrology.

Hermetic astrology has ancient traditions but its knowledge base is continually evolving as scientific investigative research discovers new astrological facts or disproves previous held beliefs.

It’s the intellectual property of The Brotherhood of Light – a group whose members study, investigate and research astrology – but the Brotherhood knows that the natural laws that represent astrology’s knowledge-base belong to you.

It knows that you can use these laws to light your way.

A brief retrospective

The basics of Hermetic astrology were first presented to the public by T H Burgoyne in his 1889 publication Light of Egypt. And in 1900 when Elbert Benjamine acquired a copy he began to teach himself astrology.

The Age of Aquarius had commenced in 1881 and this intellectual age demanded a new evidence-based scientific astrology and in 1910 Elbert gave his promise to present the ancient Hermetic teachings including the Hermetic system of astrology in a culturally relevant format.

The world had changed a great deal since Hermes Trismegistus presented the ancient teachings, although his mighty axiom ‘As Above – So Below’ is a truth that never changes.

Between 1910 and 1914 Elbert Benjamine developed the Hermetic system of astrology and in 1915 he began to teach it in Los Angeles, California.

It was first published under the auspices of The Brotherhood of Light in 1922 as Natal Astrology (Hermetic System).

In April 1924 The Brotherhood of Light Astrological Research Department was established to study and scientifically investigate birth charts for the express purpose of finding the facts of astrology.

And under Elbert’s scientific training and astrological expertise the Hermetic system of astrology continued to evolve and change.

Hermetic astrology undergoes scientific transformations

Between 1930 and 1945 painstaking research produced sensational discoveries that saw the Hermetic system of astrology experience rapid scientific transformation.

Old beliefs that were found to be scientifically unsound were eliminated from the system and newly discovered facts were introduced.

Then in 1946, after 8 years of investigative research and experimentation, Elbert Benjamine and WMA Drake developed a measuring system that could be employed to measure the power, harmony and discord of each planet, aspect, sign and house in any birth chart.

Known as astrodynes this capacity to measure astral force is one of the greatest developments in astrological science and is unique to Hermetic astrology.

The Hermetic system of astrology, as it currently stands, employs and uses astrological markers and rules that have been scientifically validated and changes will only be made if new scientific research reveals a marker or rule is invalid or unsound.
