Student: It seems to me that as there are five factors which always need to be considered in judging what will probably happen during the time any given aspect is within a one-degree orb of perfect, it would be well to have a definite order in which these five factors are to be considered, so that none will be overlooked.
Elbert Benjamine: In judging progressed aspects the planetary characteristic of the planets making the aspect are always present in the event attracted, so this is the logical first step and starting point for judging any progressed aspect.
Then as the basic volume, harmony or discard, of the thought-cell activity stimulated by the progressed aspect, and the departments of life with which this thought-cell activity is associated, are indicated by the birth chart, the second step is to look at your birth chart to discern more about what may be expected from the thought-cells given new activity.
Your birth chart, however, does not paint the whole picture of these thought-cell desires at the time the progressed aspect forms.
Experiences since birth may have accustomed them to express through certain specific channels and not through others; may have given them greater harmony or discord; and may have given them more energy than the birth chart alone indicates.
Therefore, step three should give due consideration to how you have been conditioned since birth. Education, for instance, is a portion of your conditioning and may markedly influence the specific event which is attracted. Or you may have developed the habit of attracting accidents under almost all progressed aspects involving Mars.
As other progressed aspects in operation at the time tend to influence what happens step four should assess how they may modify the one under consideration.
And finally, because the thought-cell activity, whatever it may be, which has been gauged in the first four steps, can only bring into your life such events as your environment affords; and because what comes into your life is determined by the activity and desires of the thought-cells in relation to the facility of' your environment to respond to their pressure, step five takes into consideration the facilities and resistance of your outer-world environment to specific events and conditions.
