So the only knowledge the user needs is the ability to type a question into a search engine and keep the chat flowing.

ChatGPT was launched November 20, 2022 and by February 2023 was being used by more than 100 million people. Then on March 14, 2023 OpenAI announced the release of GPT-4 the successor to GPT-3, the technology behind ChatGPT.
