The acquisition of scientific astrological data involves developing a hypothesis and putting it to the test.
But, in political astrology, it’s an almost impossible task due to the lack of reliable birth data.
So the French presidential election on April 23, 2017 provides a rare opportunity to test a long held hypothesis – that in a political contest the candidate with the most harmonious tenth house will be the winner – because the five leading candidates have birth times recorded on their birth certificates.
The recorded time won’t be absolutely precise but it will be close enough to permit an accurate assessment of their charts and to test the hypothesis.
House 10 is the chief focus of interest because it relates to events involving credit, honor and getting a job.
It signifies the compartment in the not-conscious soul-mind where thought-cells built by events involving honor, credit, the career and profession are saved in memory.
Then, when a progressed aspect stimulates these thought-cells into activity they work to attract a new event influencing these life-matters.
Thought-cells that feel harmonious work to attract fortunate events and thought-cells that feel discordant work attract unfortunate events.
So what happens is all about not-conscious thought-cell activity with the progressed chart revealing if the astrological stimulation at a specified time is harmonious and beneficial or discordant and detrimental.
That said it’s presumed that the top five candidates vying for the French presidency have political merit and advocate policies that have some popularity with voters.
It’s presumed that it’s a level political playing field and each candidate has a chance of winning.
But in these disordered political times there are centrists, left and right-wing extremists, mavericks and popularists and each is an actor performing for an audience whose motivation is strictly self-interest driven and often politically naïve.
Fears for personal safety make security a key issue for some while the business sector wants a stable and predictable economic climate.
Whatever… in a democracy the candidate with the most votes wins and that’s that.
Voters in France go to the polls on April 23 but if no candidate gets a majority of more than 50% of the vote the two candidates who receive the highest scores will face each other in a run-up on May 7.
As at April 1 a show-down on May 7 seems inevitable.
No candidate has anywhere near 50% of the votes and experienced political commentators claim that no one can predict the outcome of the election.
Each candidate’s chart operates in an environmental setting – the voting public – and opinion polls provide important information on how each one is faring (if you believe opinion polls).
So, here’s an astrological assessment of the top five candidates and their chances of becoming the next president of France.
Marine Le Pen
Marine Le Pen is the leader of the hard-right party Front National (FN).
She’s at the far-right end of the political spectrum – a popularists who plays on economic and immigration anxieties (Saturn).
She is strongly anti-European Union and promises a referendum on France’s EU membership.
Le Pen pledges to drastically reduce immigration, reinstitute border controls and ditch the Euro for a national currency and is being investigated into ‘fake’ jobs at the European Parliament.
At April 1 Le Pen has 25% of the vote and would make the May 7 run-up, but would lose.
Bookie’s have her at 11/4 to become France’s next President.
Marine Le Pen was born August 5, 1968 at 11.20am GDT (2E16; 48N53). (CEDRA database quotes birth record for 11:20am.)
The birth time has a plus or minus 2 minute margin of error but there are no structural changes in the chart within this time-frame and the chart’s astrodyne profile stays the same.
Progressed aspects involving birthchart and progressed MC should be approached with reservation.
Marine Le Pen’s birth chart progressed to April 23, 2017
The Sun – planet of politics – in house 10 dominates Le Pen’s chart.
House 10 – her honor, credit and reputation – is the dominant house.
Mercury there makes her a controversial figure and Mars attracts strife and bitter criticism.
(Mars square Saturn in house 7 is the worst aspect in the chart.)
Sun, Mars and MC discord contribute to a net house 10 discord of 4. 24 discordynes.
The big problem area of her life is house 7 – partnership, open enemies and relations with the public.
On April 23, 2017 there are no progressed planets in house 10. Mars and the MC have progressed to house 11 (her friends and supporters); the Sun has progressed to house 12 (her secret life and disappointment); and Mercury has progressed to house 1 (her personality and health).
There are 18 progressed aspects influencing house 10. Nine are harmonious, four are discordant and five are neutral.
The best – most harmonious – progression is progressed ascendant trine (luck) birthchart MC; and the worst – most discordant – is progressed Mercury opposition (separation) birthchart Saturn.
On April 23, 2017 house 10 in her chart has a total net harmony of 12.32 harmodynes.
Emmanuel Macron
In 2016 Emmanuel Macron created his own political party, En Marche!
He’s an independent – a maverick centrist who gets support from the left and right – but he’s been widely criticized for his ‘lack of experience’.
He’s socially liberal and pro-business and his globalist, international vision directly opposes Le Pen’s nationalism.
He has pledged to liberalize the French job market and reform the education system.
At April 1 Macron has 25% of the vote and would make the run-up on May 7 and would win.
Bookie’s have him at 8/15 to become France’s next President.
Emmanuel Macron was born December 21, 1977 at 10.40am CET (2E18; 49N54).
(Sy Scholfield cites a genealogy website quoting birth certificate n°5148.)
The birth time has a plus or minus 2 minute margin of error but there are no structural changes in the chart within this time-frame although the Sun dislodged Mercury as the dominant planet at 10.39.20am.
Progressed aspects involving birth chart and progressed MC should be approached with reservation.
Emmanuel Macron’s birthchart progressed to April 23, 2017
The Sun – planet of politics – in house 11 dominates Macron’s chart.
House 11 – his friends and supporters, and he has very influential friends – dominates his chart.
Neptune – planet of dreams, schemes and idealism – is in house 10 – his honor, credit and reputation so he’s seen as an idealist.
He has the ability to promote his own career.
The Sun-Mercury conjunction is trine Saturn so this guy is a very smart thinker.
Neptune harmony and MC discord contribute to a house 10 net harmony of 3.10 harmodynes.
Like Le Pen the big problem area of his life is house 7 – partnership, open enemies and relations with the public.
On April 23, 2017 progressed Neptune is in house 10.
The Sun planet of politics has progressed to house 1 (his personality and health); and Mercury has progressed to house 12 (his secret life and disappointment).
There are 23 progressions influencing house 10. Six are harmonious, 11 are discordant and six are neutral.
The best – most harmonious – progression is progressed Pluto sextile birth chart Neptune; and the worst – most discordant – is progressed Saturn square birthchart MC.
But, if he was born after 10.40.40am this high-discord progressed Saturn-birth chart MC aspect is not in orb and the house 10 harmony is increased by 19.79 harmodynes.
On April 23, 2017 house 10 in his chart has a total net harmony of 5.26 harmodynes, but it could be 25. 05 harmodynes.
François Fillon
François Fillon is the candidate of the centre-right party Les Republicains – the party of former president Nicolas Sarkozy.
He is pro deregulation and has pledged to liberalize the French economy and reduce the number of public servants.
But since late January he has been under formal investigation in a fake job scandal involving his wife after it emerged that she had been paid as his parliamentary assistant for years, but no proof of actual work could be found.
He is also being investigated over payments to his two children, Marie and Charles, when he was a senator. And he’s suspected of diverting public funds, complicity in misappropriating funds, receiving the funds and not declaring assets fully.
The fake job scandal has seen his popularity plunge.
As at April 1 Fillon has 18.5% of the vote and would not make the run-up. Bookie’s have him at 5/1 to become France’s next President.
François Fillon was born March 4, 1954 at 9.15pm CET (00E12; 48N00).
(Steinbrecher collection: Infosophia 23 quotes Patrice Petitallot/birth certificate.)
The birth time has a plus or minus 3 minute margin of error but there are no structural changes in the chart within this time-frame although the MC dislodged the Moon as the dominant planet at 9.14.35am. Progressed aspects involving birth chart and progressed MC should be approached with reservation.
François Fillon’s birthchart progressed to April 23, 2017
The MC dominates Fillon’s chart.
It’s the marker for credit, honor and publicity and with 20.74 harmodynes it’s high in harmony.
The Moon – planet of family and notoriety – in house 5 (his children) is cusp ruler of house 10 (his reputation).
It’s conjunction the Sun and the Sun-Moon conjunction is square (obstacle) Mars – the planet of strife in house 3 (the press) and cusp ruler of house 7 (his wife).
Progressed Sun is in house 8 (other people’s money.)
Fillon’s chart with 82.55 harmodynes is high in harmony but Mars, the only discordant planet, could ruin his political career.
That said the Sun-Moon conjunction is trine (luck) the MC and there’s a super-luck grand trine involving Saturn, Moon and MC and another involving Saturn, Sun and MC.
And Uranus – the planet of startling revelations and sudden reversals – in house 10 is trine (luck) the Sun-Moon conjunction in house 5.
Uranus has a net harmony of 17.69 harmodynes and house 10 has a net harmony of 38.55 harmodynes.
On April 23, 2017 progressed Uranus is in house 10 and there are 22 progressions involving this house.
Nine are harmonious, three are discordant and 10 are neutral.
The best – most harmonious – aspect is progressed Uranus parallel birth hart Jupiter; and the worst – most discordant – is progressed Uranus parallel birth chart Mars.
And if he was born before 9.14.50am the Sun and MC form a travelling progressed trine aspect.
The wild card in what happens is the very unpredictable Uranus.
So on April 23, 2017, with all that birth chart harmony being stimulated by progressed harmony, house 10 in his chart has a massive total net harmony of 214.31 harmodynes.
The work-financial scandal involving Fillon’s wife and children erupted with progressed Mars – planet of strife in house 3 (the print media) and cusp ruler of house 7 (his wife) – sesquisquare (agitation) progressed Pluto – planet of drastic events in house 11 (his hopes and wishes); and progressed Venus – planet of loved ones in house 9 (ethical issues and legal matters) – square (obstacle) birth chart Moon in house 5 (his children).
And if he’s charged he will be forced to step down and won’t run in the election.

He’s far-left and anti-austerity.
His main pledges include withdrawing France from Nato and European treaties, increasing the minimum wage and setting the age of retirement at 60.

(Gérard Laffont quotes the birth certificate: act AE CSL 1951 00084.)
The birth time has a plus or minus 2 minute margin of error but there are no structural changes within this time frame although the power order of the four planets, (ascendant and MC) with above average power does change due to small 0.01% variations in their power.
Progressed aspects involving birth chart and progressed MC should be approached with reservation.
Jean-Luc Melenchon’s birthchart progressed to April 23, 2017
The ascendant dominates Melenchon’s chart.
It’s the marker for personality, personal affairs and health.
It’s conjunction Saturn – the dominant planet – indicating a conservative, hard-working personality and a mind that regularly entertains thoughts of safety, secrecy, acquisitiveness, envy, comparison, worry, fear, system, order and persistence.
Uranus – planet of unexpected change – is in house 10 so his career path has taken sudden, unexpected turns.
Uranus is square (obstacle) Jupiter in house 7 (partnership and open enmity) and square Neptune in house 1 (his personal affairs) and these aspects contribute to its discord score of 5.83 discordynes.
But the MC with 20.58 discordynes is high in discord and house 10 has a total net discord of 25.93 discordynes.
(Melenchon’s chart has a total net discord of 70.10 discordynes.)
On April 23, 2017 progressed Uranus is in house 10 and there are 18 progressions involving this house.

On April 23, 2017 house 10 in his chart has a total net discord of 53.15 discordynes.
Benoît Hamon
Benoît Hamon is the candidate of the Socialist party (Neptune).
He’s been the education minister (Mercury) under François Hollande, but his policies are judged by many to be too far left.
He’s a left-wing radical advocating a 32-hour working week.
Hamon is strongly pro-Europe and his pledges include taxing robots and creating a universal income.
As at April 1 Hamon has 10% of the vote and would not make the May 7 run-up.
Bookie’s have him at 100/1 to become the next President of France.
Benoît Hamon was born June 26, 1967 at 6.30am CET (4W37; 48N26).
(The data is from Didier Geslain archive, 'h' pdf file, p. 22.)
The birth time has a plus or minus 5 minute margin of error and Uranus moved to house 3 at 6.29.25am – a move that saw its house position, astrodyne score and position on the planet power grid change.
Progressed aspects involving birthchart and progressed MC should be approached with reservation.
Benoît Hamon’s birthchart progressed to April 23, 2017
Mercury – the marker for his intellectual urge – dominates Hamon’s birth chart.
It’s in house 1 (his personality and health) and is trine (luck) idealistic and psychic Neptune in house 5 (risks and hazards) and trine (luck) the MC (his honor, credit and reputation).
Mercury, Neptune and MC form a super-luck grand trine.
Saturn, the planet of struggle and loss, is in house 10.
It has a net discord score of 10.77 discordynes and house 10 has a total net harmony of 0.03 harmodynes.
(The chart has a total net harmony of 55.25 harmodynes and the Sun – planet of politics – is the weakest planet.)
On April 23, 2017 progressed Saturn is in house 10 and there are 29 progressions involving this house.
Sixteen are harmonious, six are discordant and seven are neutral.
The best – most harmonious – aspect is progressed Neptune trine (luck) birth chart MC; and the worst – most discordant – is progressed Saturn parallel (and conjunction) birth chart Saturn.
On April 23, 2017 house 10 in his chart has a total net harmony of 26.27 harmodynes.
The house 10 numbers for each candidate don’t change significantly from April 23 to May 7 and as at April 1 a run-up between Macron and Le Pen has Macron winning with 61% of the vote to Le Pen’s 39% and a run-up between Fillon and Len Pen has Fillon winning with 58% of the vote to Le Pen’s 42%.
No numbers are available for a run-up between Macron and Fillon.
But these numbers become unreliable (if you believe opinion polls) as 38% of people could not say how they would vote, or that they may change their minds.
Each candidates house 10 harmodyne/discordyne score on April 23 and May 7, 2017
Marine Le Pen – 12.32 harmodynes
Emmanuel Macron – 5.26 harmodynes (could be 25.05 harmodynes)
François Fillon – 214.31 harmodynes
Jean-Luc Melenchon – 53.15 discordynes
Benoît Hamon – 26.27 harmodynes
There are too many barriers – in particular inaccurate birth times – that hamper the progress of scientific astrology but this research project to test the theory that in a political contest the winner will be the candidate who has the highest house 10 harmodyne score reveals that Francoise Fillon (if he runs) with a house 10 score of 214. 31 harmodynes will be the next President of France.
But it’s only one test so there’s still a lot more testing to be done.
