Hegseth was similarly triumphant. On April 8 he said: ‘Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield, a capital-V military victory. It decimated Iran’s military and rendered it combat-ineffective for years to come.’
Since then, Iran has continued to launch attacks on US allies in the region and learned that its control over the strait of Hormuz is its ace card. Commentators have no doubt Iran is the winner in the war with most new services reporting that Trump has no way out and no exit strategy.
