September 12: Russia launches its largest ever war games.
Hundreds of thousands of Russian troops, more than 1,000 aircraft, about 36,000 tanks and 80 warships are involved. The Chinese military joined in.
A retired Russian general said the giant war games (Mars) come as a warning (Pluto) to the US against ramping up pressure on Russia. NATO shuddered.
