February 3: Conflict: An American F-35C fighter jet from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln shoots down (Mars) an Iranian drone to protect the carrier and personnel on board. It had been sent to the region after Donald Trump demanded Iran make concessions with its nuclear program (Pluto). Mars was parallel Uranus and conjunction Pluto in the sky.
Conflict: In Nigeria’s north-central Kwara State gunmen (Mars) invade Woro, a remote village, killing at least 170 people and burning shops. Gunmen in the region increasingly raid villages, kidnap residents and loot livestock. Mars was parallel Uranus and conjunction Pluto in the sky.
February 4: Economy: In America the Washington Post (Mercury), amid mounting financial losses (Saturn), announces it is laying off (Saturn) one-third of its work force, sharply scaling back (Saturn) and impacting employees (house 6) across the newsroom’s sports, local and foreign sections. Crypto-winter: On crypto-markets Bitcoin falls to $66,000 its lowest level (Saturn) in more than a year. Analysts say geopolitical uncertainty and recent volatility in the price of gold and silver are part of the reason for its drastic price fall. Protest: In Iran students at several universities stage anti-government protests (Uranus) – the first such rallies on this scale since last month’s deadly crackdown by the authorities; in France thousands of people march in Lyon following the killing of far-right activist Quentin Deranque (Uranus) who was beaten to death last week by alleged hard-right activists (Uranus); in the UK hundreds of far-right anti-Islam protesters (Uranus) march through Manchester while a much larger crowd (Pluto) of antifascist protesters (Uranus) gathered a few streets away, carrying antiracist banners and waving an array of flags, including the Palestinian flag; and in Albania police (Mars) in Tirana fire tear gas and use water cannon as protesters (Uranus) demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama clash with security forces.
