Most people don’t have access to astrological facts so when it comes to astrology their feelings and intuitions determine their beliefs. And millions of people feel that the stars influence their lives. To them it’s a perfectly reasonable belief. Others think it’s absurd.
Today, in the Age of Aquarius, the popular perception of astrology begins and ends with zodiac signs and it’s easy for a person to learn the sign of the zodiac they were born under. And with information pertaining to the zodiac signs just a tap away they can easily check what they know about themselves with the traits and behaviors associated with the sign the Sun was in – their Sun-sign – when they were born.
Through personal experience they can learn that the Sun-sign description of their behavior is remarkably accurate. And based on this real-life evidence they can jump to the conclusion that their life is influenced by the stars.
But it’s a faulty assumption. The constellations – the stars – and the zodiac signs do have the same name tags but the constellations are not the zodiac signs.
The Encyclopedia Britannica explains that the constellations are groups of stars that were imagined – at least by those who named them – to form conspicuous configurations of objects or creatures in the sky.
It doesn’t tell you that each ‘conspicuous configuration’ or pictograph was traced among the stars by the first astrologers to represent the influence of the zodiac sign bearing the same name.
The zodiac
Hermetic science explains that the Sun and Earth combine to produce a field of energy which the first astrologers called the zodiac.
It explains that this belt of energy encircles the Earth; that its center is the celestial equator – the projection into space of the Earth’s equator; that its width extends approximately 8° north or south of this center; and the planets travel this path as they wander the heavens.
Even though it’s a circular belt the zodiac has a definite starting point. It begins when the Sun moves from south to north declination at the vernal, or spring, equinox.
And observation proves that the zodiac – the path in which the Sun and planets apparently move about the Earth – is divided into twelve equal segments. As 12 distinct sounding boards, or instruments, they’re called zodiac signs.
Each zodiac sign has a different tone quality so the influence of a planet when in one zodiac sign is not the same as when it is in another. By acting as sounding boards they influence the planetary tones being sent to Earth.
The 12 zodiac signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces and as Aries starts on March 20 each year it is an easy matter to sequence the date when each sign begins and ends and for people to learn from their birth date their Sun-sign.
Popular confusion regarding the constellations and zodiac signs arises because each sign is named after its particular constellation of stars and it’s assumed that they are one and the same.
Fact check: The constellations depict pictograph images that describe the qualities and traits of their sign associates. As star patterns in the sky they do not influence your life.
The zodiac sign the Sun was in when you were born reveals certain deep-seated character traits and its starry constellation pictures this influence in universal symbolism.
The stars that form the constellations are self luminous suns and the planets that transmit astral vibrations are masses of matter.
Astrology is an observational science and a vast amount of careful observation has revealed the qualities and behavior traits associated with each sign. This knowledge represents the science of the zodiac.
The planets in your birth chart by their sign locations define traits, qualities and characteristics that you possess and this Aquarian Age fact overwrites the commonly held misguided belief that the stars (in the sky) influence your life.
