From March 2009 to February 2010 Jupiter was conjunction Neptune in the sky; and their once every thirteen year in-sky merger was at peak power on May 27, June 10 and December 21, 2009.
Two years earlier in June 2007 progressed Jupiter in the Aquarian Age chart moved to form a conjunction aspect with birth chart Neptune > peak power date was November 22, 2011 > end date was May 17, 2016.
On August 9, 2007, with Saturn opposition Neptune in the sky > peak power date was June 25 > France’s biggest bank BNP Paribas announced it was ceasing activity in three hedge funds that specialized in US mortgage debt (house 8). It sent a signal that there were tens of trillions of dollars worth of dodgy derivatives (Neptune) swilling round which were worth a lot less than the bankers (Jupiter-house 2) had previously imagined (Neptune).
Twelve months later on September 15, 2008, with Saturn opposition Uranus in the sky > peak power date was November 4 > the US government allowed the investment bank Lehman Brothers (Jupiter-house 2) to go bankrupt (Saturn).
It set the scene for what is historically known as The 2008 Financial Crisis.
In 2009, with Saturn opposition Uranus in the sky > peak power dates were February 5 and September 15 > and Saturn square Pluto in the sky on November 15, the financial crisis of the Great Recession worsened.
On February 13, 2009 the US Congress approved a $787 billion economic stimulus package (Jupiter) and the tax cuts, sales tax deductions, tax write-offs and unemployment benefits provided the fiscal stimulus (Jupiter-house 8) that would eventually end the Great Recession (Saturn).
In March 2009 the US stock market plunged (even more) panicking investors and Jupiter in the sky moved into orb of a conjunction aspect with Neptune. The world was in desperate need of Jupiter’s hope and financial assistance.
By now many banks had collapsed; many others had incurred large losses and were relying on government support to avoid bankruptcy; and millions of people had lost their jobs as the major advanced economies experienced their deepest recessions since the Great Depression.
In April 2009 the Obama administration launched the Making Homes Affordable Program to help homeowners avoid foreclosure (Saturn). It was designed to stimulate (Jupiter) the housing market (house 4) by allowing up to 2 million credit-worthy homeowners take advantage of lower mortgage rates. And by 2016, the program had helped (Jupiter) more than 3.3 million people.
In June 2009 the National Bureau of Economic Research in the US declared the US recession had ended, but the foreclosure rate continued to rise despite the government’s Homeowner Affordable Refinance Program and in October the unemployment rate rose to 10% for the first time since 1982.
Almost 6 million jobs (house 6) were lost in 2009 with cautious (Saturn) employers (house 10) employing temporary workers (house 6) rather than full-time employees.
The Great Recession in 2009 was primarily scripted by Saturn opposition Uranus in the sky; but with Mars in the sky conjunction Pluto December 27, 2008; conjunction Jupiter February 17, 2009; conjunction Neptune March 8; and conjunction Uranus April 15 the influence of Mars and its strife, conflict and violence was pronounced in the first four months of the year.
So, in 2009, the in-sky Jupiter-Neptune conjunction had to weave its financial magic and other good news stories in a high discord sky-scape. Here are the major events in 2009 that bear the Jupiter-Neptune signature.
May 17: Four oil companies (Neptune) announce a plan to supply Europe with natural gas from Kurdistan, Iraq, via the Nabucco pipeline.
May 20: President Obama signs the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009 (Jupiter-Neptune).
May 21: Ireland’s Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse concludes that the Roman Catholic Church (Jupiter) and the Department of Education knew sexual abuse was ‘endemic’ in boy’s institutions.
June 8: Apple Inc. (Neptune) debuts its iPhone 3GS at the Worldwide Developers Conference.
December 12: The leaders of Cuba and Venezuela sign over US$3.2 billion worth of trade and cooperation agreements (Jupiter).
December 19: Pope Benedict XVI (Jupiter) declares two of his predecessors, John Paul II and Pius XII to be Venerable, the second step towards sainthood.
December 23: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (Jupiter) orders the government to recognize hiras (eunuchs and transgender people) as a distinct gender.
December 31: The High Court of Malaysia (Jupiter) rules that the country’s Christians have a constitutional right to use the word Allah in reference to God, declaring the government’s ban on the use of Allah by non-Muslims as unconstitutional.
The complicated mess that defined the world’s finances in 2008-2009 was mapped by progressed Jupiter conjunction birth chart Neptune in the Aquarian Age chart and the economic devastation in 2009 was scripted by Saturn opposition Uranus in the sky.
The in-sky Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions in 2009, operating in a high-discord astrological environment, primarily scripted the financial and legal policy responses to the financial-economic turmoil.
When human actors get it wrong they can learn from their mistakes and/or authorities can introduce new rules and regulations to prevent a similar situation from occurring and after the 2008 financial crisis that’s what happened. Whether the measures designed to correct the bad behavior were successful remains to be seen.
