Venus-Saturn events headline in December 2017

October 17, 2017

2017 has been a year of strife, conflict, rows, terror attacks and dangerous moments. Progressed Mercury opposition birthchart Mars in the Aquarian Age chart saw to that.

Other matters like women’s issues, gender equality, poverty, austerity, debt-stress, unemployment and the hardships caused by natural disasters played second fiddle to the warring words and gun violence. But in December 2017 these Venus-Saturn issues will lead the news queue.

Progressed Venus in the Aquarian Age chart moved to form a prominence (conjunction) aspect with progressed Saturn in November 2013 and on February 18, 2018 it reaches peak power. But with progressed Moon sesquisquare the Venus-Saturn conjunction on December 19, 2017 and inconjunct birthchart Saturn on December 26 major events bearing the Venus-Saturn signature will occur in December 2017.

Aspect data-analysis

Venus is the planet of women’s issues, love, affection, joy, fun, social ties, social cohesion, beauty, art, fashion, textiles, cosmetics and confectionary.

Saturn is the planet of selfishness, tradition, conservatism, security, protective measures, planning, poverty, fear, greed, contraction, economy, austerity, debt, disease, epidemics, natural disasters, grief, despair and suffering.

Venus rules women in general and Saturn rules the laborer, farmer, miner and elderly. And Saturn – the planet of planning – is very focused on dealing with the problems posed by an aging world population.

Their conjunction aspect merges the life-matters ruled by Venus and Saturn in way that elevates their importance and brings them into prominence.

Human behavior makes the world go round and in 2017 progressed Venus conjunction progressed Saturn is highlighting the destructive role of poverty, selfishness and fear on the social fabric of communities. It’s tweeting an astral email that isn’t fake news: Selfishness and narrow self-interest are what is wrong with the world and true love and affection is what is right.

Poverty

Since November 2013 the economic and unemployment problems caused by the 2007 Global Financial Crisis have been a key social issue. Poverty, disease, natural disasters and catastrophic weather events have had a constant and destructive impact on the social framework of communities.

In Greece the people suffered severe austerity and in 2017 there are too many people living in poverty, too many people unemployed or underemployed and too few people hoarding the wealth.

According to the United Nations and UNICEF more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty on less than $1.50 a day; 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day; 1 billion children live in poverty; and 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.

805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat; and 2 million children die each year from preventable diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia due to poverty.

Oxfam estimates that it would take $60 billion annually to end extreme poverty and that’s less than one-quarter the income of the world’s top 100 billionaires.

But all things considered progressed Venus conjunction progressed Saturn in the Aquarian Age chart has highlighted the struggle for gender equality and the influence of poverty, rear-vision conservative thinking and selfish advantage on women and women’s issues.

Venus, women’s issues and Saturn

Women are underrepresented in politics and earn less than their male counterparts. In the US women make up 51% of the population but only 19% of Congress; and women earn 80 cents for every $1 earned by men.

According the United Nations 40% of young women in South Asia and sub-Sahara Africa are married by age 18.

In some countries the courts automatically grant custody rights to the father in divorce settlements with women left without any means of support; and customary or religious law effectively prohibits women from owning land.

Women are 35% more likely to live in poverty than men. This denies them educational opportunities and more than two thirds of the world’s illiterate adults are women.

In America 1 in 6 women are victims of sexual violence and the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal in October 2017 revealed how those in positions of power exploit women for sexual advantage.

And while the number of female heads of government fluctuates there were 15 in March 2017 with most countries never having had a female leader.

One step forward, two-steps back

When it comes to women’s issues progressed Venus conjunction progressed Saturn tells a one-step forward and two-steps back story and backward steps were taken by the Trump administration on April 4, 2017 when it announced it would cut funding to a United Nation’s program which helps women and girls in 155 countries by $32.5 million.

And, on May 28, 2017, when it announced massive cuts to its annual global health budget. Aid for international family planning was eliminated; programs to combat HIV/AIDS in the world’s poorest countries were slashed by 17%; and efforts to fight malaria were chopped by 11%.

(Donald Trump has Venus conjunction Saturn in his birthchart and he’s responding to the same progressed aspect in the Aquarian Age chart.)

But on August 22, 2017 a step forward was taken by the Indian Supreme Court when it ruled that a controversial Muslim instant divorce law that allowed men to divorce their wives by saying the word ‘talaq’ three times was unconstitutional. Muslim women had argued that the law violated their right to equality.

And on September 26, 2017 a step forward was taken by the government of Saudi Arabia when it announced that women will be allowed to drive cars!

(During 2016-2017 progressed Sun square birthchart Venus in the Aquarian Age chart mapped a rough road to hoe for women and women’s issues. It ends on November 17, 2017.)

The Venus-Saturn conjunction is in the first decanate of Taurus

Taurus is the sign of money. It’s very practical and very inclined to devote too much time and energy to the acquisition of wealth. Its aims tend to be purely physical and it’s only when it overcomes the lust for material things that it acquires magical powers that can crystallize beneficial conditions.

The first decanate’s cipher – Lupus, the hare – symbolizes the message that timidity is the greatest bar to achievement.

And with the equinox currently in the third – Repression – decanate of Aquarius its message is particularly important: ‘The monster which demands the sacrifice of the fairest youths of the land is discord in marriage.’
