Observation reveals that no two people have the same character. Each expresses the same human nature in a personal format. Each displays outstanding features and characteristics that are easily identified and these outstanding character traits have their astrological equivalents. It means that your character and birthchart have a very similar format and the problem for astrology was to determine the chart’s format so that you could use it to create an accurate profile of your own character. It led to the development of a theory of prominence, which sought to identify those markers in any birthchart that had the most power – a term that is used to identify the strength of an astrological marker – and the markers with the most power had the strongest influence.
It was also observed that character expresses good and bad traits and the angular relationships formed by the planets – their aspects – have always been identified as the reason why. There are three harmonious aspects and four discordant aspects and they influence the functionality of the planets. They cause a planet to deviate from its basic expression in a way that is identified as harmonious or discordant. The term ‘harmonious’ is astrological jargon. It’s used to describe an astrological marker whose influence is fortunate and beneficial. And the term ‘discordant’ is used to describe an astrological marker whose influence is unfortunate and detrimental. Astrological harmony moves in the direction of fortunate events and conditions and astrological discord moves in the direction of unfortunate events and conditions. But discord does not compromise ability.
A harmonious birthchart marker is predisposed to express in a constructive manner and constructive thoughts and feelings have an effective, rewarding outcome. A harmonious thought-cell group or structure has a fortunate intent because at the time of its original formation it was feeling pleasure and this set a trend that influenced its future expression.
A discordant birthchart marker is predisposed to express in a destructive manner and destructive thoughts and feelings have an ineffective, unrewarding outcome. A discordant thought-cell group or structure has an unfortunate intent because at the time of its original formation it was feeling pain and this set a trend that influenced its future expression.
Prior to 1946 the assessment of the power, harmony and discord markers in any birthchart involved estimation and an uncertain set of rules. And Aquarius was demanding a method of judgment that provided precision and certainty. It meant that a method of accurately quantifying a chart’s power, harmony and discord markers was required. And the quantifying of astrological power had to accurately measure the strength and influence of its character equivalent; the quantifying of astrological harmony had to accurately measure the functionality of its character equivalent and the quantifying of astrological discord had to accurately measure the dysfunction of its character equivalent.
The driving force behind the idea to quantify the astrology code and measure the power, harmony and discord markers in any birthchart was the need to make the chart’s assessment much more scientific and precise.
