Measuring character traits and psychological attributes

There are many things about your physical self you can measure. You can measure your height and weight, and your waist, chest and foot size. You can measure the amount of protein and iron in your blood and the amount of each vitamin and mineral stored in your body. You can measure your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. You can even measure your Intelligence Quotient. Your age is a number, your golf score is a number and the speed you’re driving at is a number. It’s the age of numbers and they’re a permanent part of your daily life.

Numbers are used to measure temperature, time, movements on Wall Street and the number of people who are unemployed. So they very often control your behavior. But there’s one thing that the measurement-mad scientific community has failed to measure. That’s you. Not your physical self, but your mental self. The idea that your character and its component parts can be measured hasn’t yet emerged into the scientific consciousness. And the fact that a model of your character is available to be measured is a no-knowledge zone for the neuroscientists, biologists, physicists and astronomers.

The scientific study of mind and its thoughts, feelings, aptitudes, abilities, attitudes and intelligence type requires a model and a measuring device that can be universally applied to measure individual traits and characteristics. And Hermetic astrology employs your birthchart as a model of your character and astrodynes as a measurement system. When applied to your birthchart the astrodynes measure your thoughts, feelings and impulses – the emergent properties of your character. And it’s a relative measurement that does not permit comparison with other people.

You have a personal level of enthusiasm, determination, practicality, courage, idealism, confidence, optimism and resilience. You have a power urge, a social urge, an aggressive urge and a security urge and your character displays natural abilities, personality traits and intellectual interests. You have attitudes and motivations and a mental world that’s composed of thought complexes, mental traits and moods, and the relative level and functionality of each characteristic is measured. Your power behavior, social behavior, aggressive behavior and security behavior can be functional and effective or dysfunctional and ineffective. A functional thought or feeling has a harmonious intent. It moves in the direction of fortunate events. And a dysfunctional thought or feeling has a discordant intent. It moves in the direction of mishap, misfortune and unfortunate events.

Your birthchart is an astro-model of your character and each planet, aspect, sign and house in the chart has a power, harmony and discord value. And their character equivalents have the same quantitative and qualitative values. So the numbers, by measuring your character traits and psychological attributes, allow you to have a better understanding of yourself. They make the self-information coming from the chart much more certain and much more convincing. But the accuracy of the power, harmony and discord values and their usefulness in chart interpretation are totally dependent on an accurate birth time.
